Avocado hair masks are very popular in the natural hair community.
Avocado is known as a protein, which helps strengthen the hair follicles.
I usually like to add a humectant— like honey— which helps draw moisture to your hair, for a good protein–moisture balance.
Here’s what I used in this DIY avocado protein mask:
- 1 full avocado
- 1 tbsp of Greek yogurt (protein, helps split ends)
- 1 tbsp of mayonnaise (protein, reduces breakage)
- 1 raw egg (protein, adds shine)
- 1 tbsp of olive oil (moisturizing oil)
- 1 tbsp of raw honey (humectant, adds moisture)
I also added coconut water (for extra moisture) to the mix, to make it easier to blend. All of these ingredients are really thick, so it’s best to blend in a blender, mixer, etc.
Give it a try if your hair is in need of protein!
